Areas of Expertise
Dr. Keith has quite the knack for oral surgeries and treating her patients in a biologically sound way that generates optimal healing conditions. There a number of distinguishing factors that set Dr. Keith apart from other doctors when it comes to surgeries. Unlike most, Dr. Keith appreciates the importance of removing the periodontal ligament during her extraction surgeries. The periodontal ligament is a set of fibers that hold the tooth to the bone, and when a tooth is infected, this ligament can hold on to a plethora of bacteria. If that ligament and necrotic bone is not removed, the patient could be at risk for developing a cavitation in the jaw. During every surgical procedure, Dr. Keith disinfects the area with ozinated gas and water to ensure that any microscopic bacteria that may be lingering is eliminated. What really separates Dr. Keith from the rest is that she utilizes her patients' own immune system by cultivating a clot full of the patients' white blood cells and growth factors, called platelet rich fibrin (PRF), that she places in the extraction site before closing. The PRF aides in faster recovery times and decreased swelling and pain.
Dr. Keith is not only passionate about biological dentistry, she also has a deep love for cosmetic dentistry. Staying abreast with all of the latest technology and techniques in cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Keith integrates these tactics with her knowledge of biological dentistry and biocompatible materials. This enables her to give patients the esthetic smile they aim for with confidence that it was individually designed with their health in mind.
Dr. Keith is a SMART certified dentist through the IAOMT. The mercury removal procedure is comprised of a tested and scientifically proven protection protocol that keeps both the patient and the provider safe from mercury exposure during the removal process. Once the mercury is removed, Dr. Keith thoroughly removes any decay that is present, disinfects the tooth with ozone gas and water, then restores the tooth with a non-toxic, non-metal restoration.
Mercury is one of the most toxic elements to the human body and makes up about 50% of the amalgam filling composition. The constant exposure to mercury vapors puts patients at risk for a number of negative health conditions. During the removal process, if a patient is not protected correctly, patients are at much greater risk for mercury toxicity.
Dr. Keith utilizes ozone and the multitude of benefits that come along with it adjunctively in nearly every procedure she does for her patients. The ozone gas and water are used to kill bacteria, fungi, and viruses, to decrease inflammation, to ease dentinal sensitivity, and aid in remineralizing areas of demineralization on the tooth surface. She takes full advantage of the natural disinfecting properties of ozone and emphasizes its ability to stimulate the patient's immune system.
Dr. Keith works closely with patients to help them achieve dental health without using toxic materials within their smiles that can affect their oral health and overall wellness. As a biological practitioner, she is mindful of how the mouth and the rest of the body are connected and how one can affect the other. A person's oral health is a huge indication for their overall wellness, and it is Dr. Keith's goal to aid patients in understanding how their oral health can affect total body health and how conditions within the body can manifest in the mouth.
